Pale Blue Eyes were introduced to us by the wonderful Dave Cronen at Trust Management. Dave and Paul both worked together as academics for a short time, and we hope to work together with Dave again in the future. We’ve been supplying the band on an adhoc basis since then, ensuring their merch is produced in accordance with ethical principles important to the band. Pale Blue Eyes blend electro-modernist guitar, synth, and nostalgia into a polished yet emotionally resonant pop sound. Formed around 2020 in Devon (Totnes and South Devon) by the duo Lucy and Matthew Board, they later recruited bassist Aubrey Simpson after meeting at Sea Change festival. The three members collectively produce their work—writing, producing, and creating in a DIY spirit, drawing on a mix of retro synth textures, guitar driven atmospherics, and lyrical reflections on memory and change.
Their discography has been growing steadily. Their debut album Souvenirs came out in 2022 via Full Time Hobby and was mixed and mastered by Dean Honer, known for work with acts like The Human League and Add N to (X). Their second album, This House, followed in September 2023, and their third, New Place, was released on 7 March 2025 on their own label Broadcast Recordings. Each album has deepened their sound, both thematically—exploring nostalgia, transitions, and new beginnings—and sonically through guest appearances and continued collaboration with Honer.
On stage and in press, Pale Blue Eyes have earned a reputation for immersive live performances and strong critical buzz. Their singles and album tracks have been playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music, they’ve done multiple Marc Riley sessions, and toured extensively across the UK and Europe. Critics often point to influences like Krautrock, Slowdive, The Velvet Underground, and M83, especially noting how the band combine those inspirations with their own distinct mix of optimism, longing, and sonic lushness.
